Recent Progress in LCD TVs Speaker: Dr. Walter Li LCD TV Department Manager Chi-Mei Optoelectronics, Taiwan
Abstract: Liquid crystal display (LCD) has become the dominant flat panel display technology. Recently, a 100” LCD HDTV has been demonstrated. In this seminar, I will describe the basic LCD structures and their key performance characteristics for notebook computers, desktop monitors, and TVs. Some key performance indexes of a display will be characterized by examples. Especially in LCD TV market, wide view and high contrast ratio, fast response time, weak color shift and image blurring, and low cost are particularly important. I will describe recent progress made in Chi-Mei Optoelectronics on LCD TVs, including LED-lit LCD TVs which exhibit a much wider color gamut than CRTs. Biography: Dr. Walter Li received his Ph.D. degree in Electro-Optical Engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, in 1998. He joined Chi-Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) in 1999 as a R&D engineer. From 1999 to 2002, he led a team to improve the optical performance of LCD modules for notebooks and desktop monitors. Later, he became a manager of the R&D group in 2002. Presently, Dr. Li is the manager of the CMO LCD TV Head Division. Pizza and refreshment will be served at noon!
