Technology Trend of Optical Compensation Films Invited Speaker: Dr. Yukito Saitoh, Fuji Photo Film, Japan Abstract: The presentation mainly focuses on Fuji Film’s products and technologies of compensation films for wide viewing angle LCDs, such as twisted nematic (TN) wide viewing film for TN mode, optical compensated bend (OCB) wide viewing film for OCB mode, new optical films for vertical alignment (VA) mode and in-plane switching (IPS) mode. Biography: Dr. Yukito Saitoh received his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in organic materials from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1988, 1990, 2003, respectively. From 1990 to 2003, he worked at IBM Japan, Display R&D Center, developing large-area flat-panel TFT-LCDs, reflective LCDs, wide viewing angle technology and non-contact LC-alignment technology. In 1995, he stayed at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in the USA for the research of wide viewing angle TFT-LCDs. In 2003, he joined Fuji Photo Film, FPD Research Laboratories, where he is currently a research staff member. His work has included optical design and development of optical films for wide viewing angle LCDs, display simulation and measurement. He is a member of the Liquid Crystal Technology subcommittee of the SID Symposium from 2004 to 2006.
